The Malta Institute of Accountants (MIA) was established in 1942 and in 1965 it merged with a co-existing membership body in Malta. The MIA serves as the professional membership body for individual accountants, auditors and accountancy and audit firms registered in Malta. It also provides membership opportunities for foreign accountants working and residing in Malta.
The MIA is recognised as the only approved accountancy body in Malta in terms of the Accountancy Profession Act (Chapter 281 of the Laws of Malta).
Apart from being the voice of the profession Malta, the MIA actively contributes to shape national policy, collaborates with authorities, regulators and stakeholders, participates in legislative processes, contributes to education and provides continuous support to its members through various initiatives and events.
In addition to being a member of FCM, the MIA is also a member of IFAC and Accountancy Europe.
