"The Mediterranean Accountancy Profession in a Turbulent Economy: A Solid Accounting Infrastructure to Strengthen Transparency and Accountability in the Region" 8th FCM Conference in Bucharest, Romania, on October 2nd, 2009
On October 2nd, 2009, FCM held its 10th Anniversary Conference in Bucharest, Romania. The event was hosted by CECCAR (The Body of Expert and Licensed Accountants of Romania) and attended by more than 500 delegates.
The theme of the Conference was “The Mediterranean Accountancy Profession in a Turbulent Economy: A Solid Accounting Infrastructure to Strengthen Transparency and Accountability in the Region”. It included the participation of globally renowned speakers from the EU Commission, the World Bank, the ASCAME (Association of the Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce and Industry), the Economist, the FEE (Federation of European Accountants), the IFAC (International Federation of Accountants), the ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and the New York University.
The conference focused on the role that the Accounting and Auditing profession can play in light of the ongoing financial and economic crisis. Participants discussed how a solid accounting infrastructure can strengthen transparency, accountability and integration in the Mediterranean region. Specific emphasis was given to regional issues affecting Small and Medium Practices and Small and Medium Enterprises.
The Conference also provided an opportunity to discuss the Euro Mediterranean cooperation activities in the field of Accounting and Auditing, especially in the light of the Conclusions of the EuroMed Market Programme - to which FCM participated as a regional expert organisation.

Finally the Conference celebrated the tenth anniversary of FCM, whose membership includes 20 professional organisations from 17 Mediterranean countries, representing over 320.000 professionals in the region.
